Bristol letting agents may have two new areas for student flats on their books, as plans for developments gain momentum, jackbristol.com reports.
High Kingsdown and the site of Bristol's Ice Rink on Frogmore Street look set to be redeveloped into flats for students, provided the projects are awarded permission by local councillors.
In High Kingsdown, the now-disused King's Arms pub could be turned into a block of so-called "cluster flats"; housing as many as 50 students.
Bristol's ice rink is set to close its doors in October this year, when the space will be cleared for student accommodation. The area may not lose an ice rink altogether, as planners are currently considering leisure space allowances. There is also the potential for a rink to be located at a nearby site run by the same owners.
Speaking to thisisbristol.co.uk about the plans, ice rink owner John Nike explained: "We have been in talks with [developers] Unite for 12 months over this issue because the lease was coming to an end.
"I currently own 140 acres of green belt land next to the park and ride in Stockwood and along with Crest Nicholson we have been talking to the planning inspectorate. If we were to build then the scheme there would be land set aside for commercial use which would most likely be an ice rink."
