Land in the Old Market area of Bristol could be developed into a series of flats, apartments and townhouses, bristol247.com reports.
It's expected that Bristol estate agents will be carefully following the plans, which have already been submitted to the local council for consideration. They outline proposals to develop land between Unity Street, Jacob Street and Hawkins Street into a "village" comprising of 42 apartments, six townhouses and four shop units.
Currently the land is owned by Northcliffe Media and is situated behind the offices for the Bristol Evening Post.
In drawing up the plans, developers spoke to the local population, as well as a number of groups including the Bristol Urban Design Forum, the Old Market Community Association and the Village Business and Residents Association, among others.
Traffic consultants have also been contacted to ensure roads around the area can handle the extra traffic once the development has been completed.
The overall aim was to bring a "village" feel to the area, something which found favour with many of the people the developers consulted.
John Frenkel, convener of major sites at Bristol Civic Society told thisisbristol.co.uk: "The Civic Society welcomes this scheme to bring back this long derelict site into use.
"It will encourage more people to return to live in the Old Market Community. The Scheme will help to re-establish Old Market 'village' and encourage more development nearby."
