A derelict site in Bishopston is set for redevelopment as officials outline plans to build 24 affordable homes there, treehugger.com reports.
148-156 Pig Sty Hill is currently being demolished after the once-thriving shops which took residence in the area fell into decline. The area in now being redeveloped in the hope of boosting the area, starting with a new development of 24 affordable homes.
The new development, which is set to be ready in early 2013, will comprise of three-bed townhouses and flats which will be offered for rent or for sale. Further details are expected to be released to Bristol estate agents in due course.
Not only will the development help the are with its regeneration plans, but its building will also boost the city, with Bristol's Community Housing Foundation seeking to use local workers and materials on the build wherever possible.
"Being locally based and independent means we are able to offer a personalised service to our future residents," finance director at Bristol Community Housing Foundation Allister Young told thisisbristol.co.uk.
"We are using local architects and contractors so we can make sure our investment also helps the local economy."
Local residents are also keen to see the development begin to take shape, with 90-year old resident Una Coleman adding: "I am so pleased that something is being done about the site.
"It's so sad to see it neglected for so long and now it will give young families a chance to get a home in the area again."
