Spotlight on Clifton, Bristol

Each month, we will shine a spotlight on some of the UK’s favourite places to live. This month, we feature the exclusive suburb of Clifton.

Clifton is a beautiful suburb in Bristol. With its wealth of Georgian and Regency terraces, crescents, and squares, it is viewed by some as almost a miniature version of Bath.

Historical architecture is blended with a modern day vibe, with its abundance of chic boutiques and tempting café bars and restaurants.

It’s an ideal setting for families too, with nurseries, colleges and schools including Clifton College, Clifton High, Christchurch, and St John’s.

Looking for a day out? There are many famous attractions such as Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol Zoo Gardens, Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, the Clifton Observatory (with its natural cavern called Giant’s Cave), and the beautiful Durham Downs for walks and picnics.

And for the more energetic, you are spoilt for choice with the Clifton Sports Centre and The Bristol and Clifton Golf Club. Or you can spend hours gently ambling, and browsing the many upmarket, independent shops and boutiques in Clifton village and Whiteladies Road.

Clifton also boasts some of Bristol’s best watering holes to quench your thirst – from cosy pubs to chic cocktails bars including, The Albion, Côte, the original speakeasy Hyde & Co, Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the funky Dirty Bird, or the Victorian-themed bar Lost & Found.

And your taste buds will be tingling with mouth-watering offerings from delights such as Japanese kitchen and bar KIBOU, Sri Lankan street food favourite The Coconut Tree, Racks Bar and Kitchen, and The Botanist.

If you need to go further afield, there are excellent transport links. Clifton Down Railway Station is handy for trips to Avonmouth or Temple Meads, a quick route for London Paddington. And Bristol airport is a mere ten miles away.

Could Clifton be the spot for you? The area boasts a unique community spirit as while it offers so much variety of attractions, it still retains a village feel, which is very appealing. Still tempted? Find your perfect property here.
